1. One name goes a long way in this small state. The Indians and the state were both named after the Delaware River. And where did the river get it's name? The Delaware River was named after Sir Thomas West (Lord de la Warr), the Virginia Company's first governor.

2. The Delaware Indians were one of the most advanced tribes of the eastern United States.

3. Twelve concrete observation towers along the coast were constructed during World War II to protect the state's coastal towns from German u-boat attacks.

4. Delaware is the only state without any National Park System units such as national parks, seashores, historic sites, battlefields, memorials, and monuments.
